Back to School Routine
Dr. Root's Routine Recommendations
We are all in the back-to-school swing and sometimes it can feel like whip-lash! Here are a few tips to soften the transition and help your family ease back into your fall semester.
- Start with bedtime! Set a goal of having your kids in bed 30 minutes before you are hoping they will fall asleep and stick to it!
- Plan a protein-rich breakfast with healthy carbohydrates, like fruit. Avoid sugar in the mornings if at all possible!
- When they get home from school offer a small, well-balanced snack and have them spend 15 minutes in physical play, outdoors if possible, before they sit down for homework.
- NO SCREENS THIS WEEK! Avoid screen time in the evenings if at all possible, or at least eliminate them in the last 60-90 minutes before bed.
- Plan a family meal or outing this weekend that allows your children to rest and have fun! Avoid over-scheduling the first few weekends of school if possible, so that everyone has some time built-in to the schedule to decompress.
